This is my resume and it's not very funny. I grew up in the wine country near the San Francisco Bay Area so no one can say that I don't know what real struggle is. After graduating college with a near-useless degree, I moved to San Francisco and began writing, directing, and performing sketch comedy. It was also around that time that I started getting involved with podcasting, a comedy market that was already reaching peak saturation. In early 2015, I moved to Chicago to escape insane rent prices and further my comedy career. Within six months I had a staff writing job at the new Onion, Inc vertical StarWipe. After that website shuttered, I became a regular freelance contributor to all other Onion, Inc properties including ClickHole, The A.V. Club, and The Onion proper.
Contributor to The Onion and ClickHole (August 2016 - Present)
I submit funny and/or silly jokes on a weekly basis and occasionally The Onion and ClickHole are kind enough to use them. It's fun!
Contributor to The A.V. Club (September 2016 - Present)
I pitch ideas and write articles for the AV Club's "Great Job, Internet!" section. They cover a wide variety of topics and are hopefully entertaining as well as informative. Read them here: http://www.avclub.com/author/danneilan/
Staff Writer at StarWipe (October 2015 - June 2016)
I worked as part of small staff of writers on a new satirical and celebrity-focused comedy website from Onion Inc. I started as a freelance contributor but was asked to join the staff soon after launch. I contributed daily articles, timely one-off jokes, and branded social media content. I produced weekly features covering a wide range of non-news topics, satirizing celebrity culture and anything else floating around in the cultural zeitgeist.
Scheissennacht (Nov 2015 & March 2016)
I cowrote this hour-long German cabaret-inspired sketch show with my writing partner Alicia Kraft. I also performed the duties of director and co-producer throughout the run. We had two successful runs at the Public House Theatre in Chicago.
Infinite Juice (February 2016)
Cowrote this sketch revue as part of completing the Second City Writing Program. After casting and rehearsing the show, we had a successful sold-out run at the Second City's de Maat Theater.
Radio, The Show (December 2014)
After writing and performing sketch in San Francisco for awhile I decided to write, direct, and perform in my own hour long show. I and five other incredibly talented actors performed this show to great acclaim.
Lots of other sketch shows...just ask me.
